The Buckland S870 Shotgun is a pump-action shotgun that fills the special weapon slot.

Description[ | ]

Featuring an eight-round internal tubular magazine that possesses high damage at close range, making it an effective hip-fire weapon when on the move. Aiming doesn't reduce pellet's dispersion, but aiming will be much more accurate. With a well placed shot the S870 can eliminate a Striker or Shooter in one shot, but it's high damage is offset by its relatively low ammo capacity. It is equipped with a reflex sight and a wide, short ranged flashlight.

It's relatively effective against all enemies, but only at dangerously close range. At times however, when being attacked by many Strikers, close range combat is unavoidable.

Comparison to the AF6 Combat Shotgun[ | ]

S870 is pump-action, fires more pellets per shot, deals higher damage per pellet, and has a smaller pellet dispersion.

AF6 is fully automatic, with a higher rate of fire. It has a larger magazine, and a lower bullet cost (granting it more max ammo, and allows it to receives more shells when being resupplied from an ammo pack). It also has a faster reload speed. However, the AF6 deals roughly half as much damage per shot than the S870, meaning that it generally does not kill Strikers and Shooters in a single shot unless at point-blank range and aimed towards weak points.

Whilst the AF6 also has a higher total non-precision damage output than the S870 (from maximum ammo), and the highest stagger multiplier in the game (2x, which in turn means that it has a slightly higher per-shot stagger amount as the S870), the S870 has a higher potential precision damage output (having a 1x multiplier instead of a 0.875x multiplier), and can deal more damage with a single magazine than the AF6.

Comparison to the XDIST2 Choke Mod Shotgun[ | ]

The XDIST2 has half the magazine capacity (albeit with a slightly faster reload), less total ammo, fewer (stronger) pellets per shot (dealing slightly less total damage than the S870), but a much tighter pellet dispersion than the S870.

However, despite the lower total ammo count (due to the smaller magazine), the XDIST2 has a slightly lower bullet cost than the S870, meaning it gains slightly more ammo per resupply than the S870 (always gaining 9 shells, rather than the S870's inconsistent amount of 8.18).

The reduced ammo capacity of the XDIST2, combined with the identical precision damage modifier, and the slightly lower damage, means that the S870 is capable of dealing more damage in total (and per magazine) than the XDIST2. However, the XDIST2 has a significantly more generous effective range (15 metres vs 4 metres), allowing users of the XDIST2 to remain at a safer distance than S870 users. Furthermore, the XDIST2 has a higher stagger modifier (1.35x instead of 1x), allowing it to be more effective at keeping enemies at this safe distance.

Ultimately, the XDIST2 is a more consistent weapon than the S870, but the S870 has the potential to be the better weapon - at the cost of consistent performance.

Trivia[ | ]

  • The reload animation does not change depending on the amount of shells loaded, it is always the same.
  • Prisoners are given this weapon during Training.
