The Sawed-off Shotgun is a semi-automatic weapon filling the main weapon slot, it was released in the extension of Rundown 005 as a rundown specific weapon, and re-added in ALT://Rundown 5.0. Its magazine size was increased to 4 shells in Rundown 8.0 (whilst retaining the same three barrel break-action mechanism).
Description[]
The Buckland SBS III Sawed-off Shotgun is the first shotgun in the main weapon category. The small magazine size, low max ammo and short range are compensated by the abilty to kill Strikers, Shooters and even Chargers in one shot, possesing the fastest kill time against four consecutive enemies in a row for the main weapons. It is also capable of taking out Scouts from the front with a headshot, which can be useful for a main weapon.
If played optimally, other main weapons can be more ammo efficient than the Sawed-off. However, the very high damage with practically guaranteed oneshot capabilities against smaller enemies in close range still proves useful in a lot of scenarios. A mitigating factor for the Sawed-off's ammo consumption is that several enemies can be damaged with one shot since it fires a wide spray of pellets.
Trivia[]
- The SBS III does enough damage per pellet that it is possible to kill 2 small enemies in one shot. Due to the spread pattern and range requirements, this is unlikely to happen often.
- The piercing nature of the HEL Shotgun was presumably given to it to compensate for this shortcoming.
- It bears a notable resemblance to the Mozambique Triple-Tap shotgun from Titanfall 2.
- It is unknown whether the in-universe SBS III was actually sawed-off, or if it was manufactured to have the 'sawed-off' form factor.
- The 'III' presumably refers to the triple-barrel design of this shotgun.
- Highest base damage per shot of all main weapons, assuming all pellets hit.
- It is unknown how the fourth shell (as of Rundown 8.0) is loaded within this break-action triple-barrel shotgun.
- This immersion-ruining problem is also present within the HEL Revolver (having a 6-round cylinder which holds 8 rounds)
- It is theorized that, given Santonian's forays into interdimensional shenanigans, the extra bullets/shells may be facilitated by prototoypes of extremely minaturized pocket dimension technology or some other plot contrivance which would make Chimp Theory seem extremely rational in comparison.
